Vocabulary
Students with a strong vocabulary comprehend texts better and make greater strides academically than those with a weak vocabulary. Students develop vocabulary in several ways. Teachers directly teach word meanings throughout the school day. Since there are so many words in the English language, a teacher cannot teach them all. Students learn words as a result of vocabulary-rich discussions at home, listening to books read-aloud to them, and reading widely on their own. Parents and teachers working together help students develop their vocabulary!
